Cosby Celebrate the Drive-In of their New Captains on
Sunday 31st January
With over 130 enjoying a superb lunch, the activities started around 12.30pm when everyone enjoyed a drink on the outgoing Captain, Francois Ginvert. Out to the 18th to see last year’s Captains, Francois, Sue Taylor, David Frith and Luke Burrows chip and put out – with David, Sue and Francois all overshooting the green (and blaming the frosty ground conditions!)
Moving onto the 1st tee, adorned as a Welsh Tea Shoppe, daffodils, leeks and sheep (plastic I might add) on the 1st fairway to see the Welsh Duo of David Jones and Carolyn Hutchins Drive-Off to the strain of the Cosby Male Voice Choir’s rendition of “We’ll Keep a Welcome in the Hillside”.
If you haven’t guessed by now… our two new Captains are of Welsh origin. We even had the Welsh flag flying from the second flag pole.
David and Carolyn had excellent drives, as did our new Seniors Captain Tom O'Shea who hit a cracker down the middle, but not before our Junior Captain Luke Morey hit an excellent drive. We can’t remember a year when all four had superb drives.
The Drive-In procession was accompanied by one or two of the Ladies Section kitted out in their welsh outfits and two very suspect “ladies”?, (see if you can spot who they are on the photos).
In we all came to have a drink on the new Captain (what a good day the Drive-In is!) and an excellent meal followed by more singing.
A fabulous atmosphere throughout the day – Cosby at it’s best.
